EGEL Retreat, Safaa Golf Club

28 January, 2017

The first retreat of the year opened with two bold questions: that will drive our group’s research this year and beyond: What can we do to make a better world? And how can we drive paradigm shifts in our field?

Prof Santamarina challenged the group to be bold and produce research that is not more- of- the- same.  It must be curiosity-driven, wild and above all contain scientific depth. We have a unique opportunity at KAUST and within the Kingdom to be catalysts of great developments. Led by Postdocs, smaller groups brainstormed the most important research questions that should be addressed in their research areas and also discussed key scientific foundations that require resolution. The retreat was a lovely opportunity to get to know each other (and play some golf!), further explore our research and to discuss our visions for the new laboratory, focusing on equipment and devices that will enhance our research.
