Dr. Junghee Park and Professor J.Carlos Santamarina received the 2019 Tarek Al-Kasabi Award for Excellence in Civil Engineering in Saudi Arabia. The award was presented in a ceremony on April 11 at King Saud University. The ceremony was attended by eminent Researchers, Professors, Scientists, Industrial leaders, and administrative authorities of the Kingdom. During their acceptance speeches, Junghee and Carlos expressed their sincere gratitude to Dr. Abdullah Almajed at King Saud University for his nomination, the Scientific Committee who saw the value of their research efforts and to Engineer Tarek Al-Kasabi for his great vision and generosity.
The Al-Kasabi award was instituted in 2015 by the endowment of Engineer Tarek Al-Kasabi and is given to Scientists, Engineers or Researchers in the Kingdom who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to Civil Engineering. Presented annually, the award consists of a personalized plaque, certificate and a cash prize of SR 100, 000. The Department of Civil Engineering, King Saud University, Riyadh administers the award.
